I love my Samsung TV :)

I recently upgraded from a 32" 720p/1080i to this 40" Samsung 1080p TV and the difference is truly amazing. I wasn't expecting a massive difference but there was. It is shocking how quickly technology moves on. I bought my previous TV about 2/3 years ago, but compared to my Samsung it may as well have been a 20" CRT.

This TV really is that good! The picture quality is flawless, and a comprehensive menu of features ensures that you can tune it to your personal taste. The sound, even with the inbuilt speakers is excellent - I don't even bother with a dedicated amp any more.

I have connected my PS3 and have played several games and Blu-Ray movies on the TV and they look perfect, absolutely PERFECT. The only downside (and this is true for all large screen HD TV's) is that standard definition TV broadcasts look a little choppy by comparison, but TV broadcasts are heading down the HD route anyway so it's only a temporary issue.

Also, with most of the front of the TV being the screen (no awkward looking speakers on the side) the profile is relatively small (compared to other 40" TV's I have seen) and as such it won't look out of place or "vulgar" in a standard living room.

I highly recommend this TV.

4 out of 5 stars Great value   March 31, 2008
I am very pleased with this purchase. This TV looks great both physically and on screen. Most of what I am viewing is standard definition but look much better than my previous telly. XBox 360 games, which I view via a VGA cable on the "PC" input, look fab. Highly recommended.

If you are reading this review then I imagine you are as I was a month or so ago; endlessly looking up which tv you would be buying. After a while comparisons of reviews and specifications can really start to give you a headache as I well know. For several months I looked at just about every tv in our price range and eventually settled on the M87. It had all the features we wanted and was a really good price via amazon.

And all I can say is, we are definatley not dissapointed. I would not trade this tv for the world! It is that good! You can go on about black levels, gamma, PiP, motion flow and all the other bumpf to your ears bleed but at the end of the day, all that matters is how the tv performs in a day-to-day basis and for what you intend to do with it. And this set ticks all the boxes, no questions asked. We are yet to get sky+ installed upstairs where it lives so have been watching through the inbuilt freeview. I was very worried about all I had heard about the poorness of standard definition on a large HD set, especially through aerial but now I wonder what others are talking about? Its great with SD even through the aerial! Once you get the settings sorted (which is very easy - just a quick browse online) SD picture is very easily viewable, there's not a massive difference between a crt set, so that's great and I can't wait to get sky hooked up for a better picture and some footy (which also looked great on match of the day - another initial fear gone!).

We have it hooked up to a PS3 for blu-rays and a Philips surround sound with dvd upscaler. Both look amazing through the tv; blu ray especially is something to behold! This also reminds me - don't be put off by the apparently poor tv speakers: yes they are at the back, no they aren't a surround system, but, they are perfectly fine for general watching of the tv, I found them to be quite loud and clear infact, but this could be our living room maybes, which is quite hard acoustically. If you're going to be watching films a lot and playing games (like us) then yes it would be well worth getting a surround system, but this is in no way a requisite with this tv.

So all in all, this tv is awesome! I know full way how confusing it can be when searching for a new tv, I was there but am fully satisfied with this tv - its is truly amazing. And doesn't have the problems many say it has. There's no excuse not to have it at this price! So stop searching, get this tv, and start enjoying the HD you've been reading about!!

5 out of 5 stars Really good TV   March 24, 2008

We picked this up for circa 700 and its really good. The TV comes into its own when you combine with Blu ray - its incredible. I',m no techno geek but I think this TV is well worth the money. Whether it be for watching digi TV, DVDs, Blu Ray or gaming it gets top marks on all. Its easy to set up and its now obvious to me why Samsung TVs are performing so well - they are excellent across the board. Having seen the difference between this 40" and a 32" I think the extra cost is definitely worth it if you can afford to go that extra 8". As my good lady would say, every inch counts!!
