No more shop-bought bread! May 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received the breadmaker a couple of months ago for my birthday and we haven't bought any bread since it arrived. The first thing to say is that the machine is very simple to use and to maintain. You cannot put the bread tin in the dishwasher which some might see as a problem - but in truth the tin needs no more than a wipe with a cloth. I have tried a wide range of loaf styles, both from the Panasonic manual & from a variety of cookbooks, and they have all turned out as expected. I haven't bothered with any of the bread mixes you can buy as they contain the same kind of flour "improvers" and additives as the bread you buy in the shops (artisan bakers excluded but there aren't any close to where I live). The joy of having the breadmaker is that I can get good quality bread using high quality ingredients and without unnecessary 'extras' - and all this with the minimum of effort. Fantastic!
Negative reviews out first May 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Further to my earlier negative review of this machine and the customer service you don't get from Panasonic it seems to me that the negative reviews are allowed a shorter shelf life in the forum than the positive ones and are removed sooner. They should remain at least as long as the other reviews so people can make a choice.
Good value April 23, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
As a domesticated male I got a SD255 for my Christmas present.... strange as that may seem to some. It took me a week or so to pluck up the courage to give it a go. I think I was worried that a failure would relegate the machine to the back of a cupboard. No need to worry. My first effort was a complete success. Since that first wholemeal loaf i've used the machine with increasing frequency until the point were we stopped buying shop bread. I no longer need the recipe book to produce a basic wholemeal loaf and can have the ingredients in the machine within 5 minutes. I've only had a couple of failures, one when I left the mixing blade out and the other was a rye loaf which just didn't seem come out right. One tip is that if you use the Allinson tinned dry yeast then you may need to use 0.25 to 0.5 of a teaspoon more than the Hovis sachets. I'm getting more adventurous with my recipes now. It's quite addictive! In addition, the bread it makes tastes so much better than most of the shop bought products. Food prices are rising on a seemingly weekly basis. Invest in a breadmaker and you'll save a fortune and get much better bread thrown in.
Yummy Bread April 16, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My Mam has had one of this type of breadmakers for a couple of years now and often gave us a delicious loaf made in the Panasonic machine. On a spur of the moment decision and one that amazed the hubbie I decided to buy one. It is so easy to use, you basically just put everything in the machine, select the programme and then a few hours later, magic, a delicious loaf has appeared.
To date (only got it on Monday - 3 days) I have only made the basic white, rapid basic white (quicker) and am now trying the fruity loaf recipe as I write. The quality of the bread is stunning and absolutely no good if you are on a diet because you will just want to keep eating it. The two white breads I have made are lovely, soft and springy and YUMMY! The good thing with this Panasonic is that it comes with a really good recipe book designed for the machine so you have heaps of recipes to try. Naturally you have your wheat, white, brown types but also things like pizza loaf, 5 seeded bread loaf, curry and mango loaf, cheese and bacon loaf, honey and sunflower loaf, onion loaf. It also does rye, French, Italian and Sandwich loafs. Also gluten free recipes.
You can also if you want just get the machine to make the dough ready for you to put in your oven. This is handy for bread buns, hot cross buns, chelsea buns, croissants, pepperoni tear and share bread, to name just a few. Also pizza dough which I imagine will be delicious.
You can also make cakes in it, not the victoria sandwich type though and you do have to line the tin inside with parchment paper. You also have to mix the mixture yourself before hand. I don't think I will use this option though.
I think if a piece of equipment is easy to clean, it will get used. This machine is extremely easy to clean, just a quick wipe over of the machine and rinse out of the baking tin. This tin is specially coated for the bread not to stick to it, so a quick rinse round with water puts it back as new.
This model is slightly more expensive than the cheaper one in the Panasonic range because it has the addition of an automatic dry food dispenser (like for the fruit to be added to my loaf at the right time) and the gluten free option.
The taste of the white bread alone is enough to make me recommend the machine. Anyone can use it and produce exceptionally tasty results.
Even better than sliced bread!! March 27, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had my Panasonic breadmaker for just over a month now and have baked fresh bread almost everyday. What a difference from the supermarket loaves. The taste is out of this world. I find the machine so straightforward to use and the instruction book is very easy to follow. I tend to use the "fast bake" control as I can't always keep up with demand, however, the bread doesn't taste any different to that baked on a normal "bake". My favourite bread so far is made with the Sainsbury Sunflower bread mix. It is so easy to use. I empty the mix into the machine, add the required amount of water, press some buttons and in less than two hours I have a delicious loaf.
I thoroughly recommend this machine. Friends and family that have other brands of breadmakers often say their bread is a hit and miss affair. All my loaves made in my Panasonic have been really wonderful. I just wish I had bought one earlier. If you want lovely bread, this is the one to buy.
