fantastic breadmaker! May 8, 2008 I bought this breadmaker in March, after having had 2 different breadmakers which were ok but both of which broke after 2 years and a lot of use. I bought this model because of the rave reviews on this site, and I am so glad I did - it is absolutely brilliant; the bread is always fantastic, light and delicious, and, unlike with the others, I have not had a single disaster. It is also quiet, easy to clean and attractive to look at. I am addicted!
Really Simple to use May 3, 2008 A really simple to use bread maker, makes good quality bread that everyone seems to enjoy eating.
Well worth the money
Very disappointing. May 2, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
After reading so many positive reviews, I was quite surprised with the Panasonic SD254. The bread seems to turn out all right, but it does no better than others I've owned. And there's one flaw that is just plain infuriating, and completely inexcusable.
This machine has a predetermined time for each type of bread. If it's a standard bake, then the time is set at four hours. No matter what size the loaf is. Thus, if you make anything but the largest loaf size, the machine just sits there and does nothing! It doesn't start until whatever amount of time is needed to assure that the bread will be done in four hours. If it takes three hours to make, then it simply doesn't start for an hour.
If you want to add things after the bread starts mixing, you may have to wait an hour and 55 minutes before it starts.
I called the support line to see what was wrong. Though I'd read the manual, I saw nothing to explain it. As it turns out, there is a table that gives the length of "rest" periods. The tone of voice used by the service representative made quite clear that I was being stupid not to realize that these "rest" periods happen at the beginning of the cycle. Silly me! I'd thought that a rest happens after something has been done - like the rest period for the dough to rise - not before.
The reviews stating that the extra time to make bread results in better bread are mistaken. There is no extra breadmaking time. There is only waiting time for the machine to start making the bread.
This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth.
Kneading Blade failure April 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After six loaves the seventh came out like a small dod. Examination of the machine revealed the paddle blade flopping around with about 2 inches of free movement. I got a new paddle blade and it was the same. Further examination revealed that the spindle was seriously worn, presumably because it had not been properly hardened. I phoned Panasonic who claimed that this loose blade problem had never been reported before. They are sending me a new spindle. After reading reports of this problem I am hoping that we are simply the result of a bad batch.
Makes the most wonderful fresh bread April 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was fed up with the poor quality and high price of supermarket bread and although I have made my own bread by hand it is very time consuming. I finally decided to take the plunge and bought this Panasonic breadmaker after reading all of the positive reviews. I have not been disappointed. This machine makes the most wonderful, light bread even when using wholemeal flour. It is so easy to use. Just put the ingredients in, select the type of bread and press start. 4 to 5 hours later, depending on the type of bread, a fresh loaf of bread comes out of the machine. I would recommend anyone who appreciates good bread to buy this machine. You will not be disappointed.
