The Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock is fantastic. I have been using it everyday for the last two weeks. Although the function is fairly simple it works well. I hate mornings and I don't particularly like winter so I was keen to give this a try. It basically slowly wakes you up by increasing the light intensity over a 30 minute period, this works really well. The light itself is very powerful, you can alter the settings to any intensity you want. I picked the highest so that at the end of the 30 minutes it is like having sunlight streaming through the window.

I used to wake up with a jolt to my mobile phone alarm but the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock really allows you to wake up naturally and slowly. I've been using the alarm beep setting during the week just to make absolutely sure I catch my train; I have tried all the alarms, beeping, radio, running water and dawn chorus (which is my favourite). The birds start of imperceptibly and increase in sound so you wake to sunshine and birds - very nice. The biggest thing for me is that by the time you wake up and are conscious you don't feel like rolling over and going straight back to sleep again you are awake enough to get straight out of bed.

You can use the light on its own as a bed side light. You can select both light intensity easily and also loudness of sound. Setting the alarm is also very easy, in fact the whole operation is very simple, you could easily dispense with the instruction manual and just use the quick start guide that comes separately. And should you still need to you can snooze the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock too (although I haven't needed this option). --Jeremy Paterson, Amazon.co.uk

3 out of 5 stars great to wake up to but niggling issues   May 11, 2008
great to wake up to when it's dark in the morning - but feels a bit cheapish - biggest probelm though is that when the light's on you can't read the clock because it's not bright enough - so in the morning it's a bit awkward knowing what the time is

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   April 24, 2008
I researched various 'wake up' lights prior to purchasing this one, and finally decided to go with Philips on a recommendation of a friend. I'm not disappointed! I've always found it hard to get up in the morning, and I really don't know how I managed without this light. The only small criticism I have is that the digital display is quite bright, and I found this hindered me dropping off to sleep, so I keep the small adhesive cover on it all the time, as I don't need to see the time. I love this wake up light, and have recommended it to all my friends.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic for a new mother!   April 7, 2008
I have had the wake-up alarm clock for just over a week now, and it's been briliant. Not only do I wake up refreshed and happy to see my baby each morning, (instead of groggily changing his nappy and falling asleep trying to feed him!!) I definately feel that this has revived my dwindling milk supply!
I've been feeling very under the weather recently, and I tend to get moody in the winter. Add that to baby blues and you have a recipe for stress, which in turn affects how much milk you produce. I was determined to breastfeed my son, and willing to try anything to make that easier, when my health visitor suggested a light box 15 minutes a day.
My husband and I decided to go for the alarm clock as it was roughly similar price and had more functions. We are so pleased with this product, and yes, my milk supply has increased!!

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great quality   March 19, 2008
I bought this lamp quite a while ago and it still feels as if the sun is streaming in through the window when I wake up so in that sense it is great.

The downside though is that the interface is very plasticky and clicky. To regulate the volume or light there is a roller switch which can take some time to get to the value required.

There is no fixed alarm setting so if in bed reading the light intensity for the alarm needs to be reset before going to sleep which is quite time consuming when you're ready to just turn the light out and go to sleep.

However, for me waking up in this way is fantastic. The light and the radio (or any of the sounds) come on very gradually which doesn't launch a person into awakens. If you can put up with the clicky, plastickiness of it then it is worth waking up with this.

5 out of 5 stars It's a great alarm for the winter months   March 10, 2008
What a great alarm light this is. I've been using mine for 5 months now and it's great for those dark mornings in the winter, you really wake up with more energy. But it is very plasticky, but apart from that its great.
