Amazon.co.uk Review There's no getting around it: there was simply no better summer blockbuster in 2007 than the astonishing The Bourne Ultimatum. It's a film that defies expectations in many ways. Firstly, it's a third entry in a trilogy that by some distance in the best in an already-compelling franchise. Secondly, whenThe Bourne Ultimatum kickstarts with a ferocious energy and pace, you sit there and rightly expect it not to keep the momentum going. But it does. And does it astonishingly well. Just witness the breathless sequence through Waterloo Station, convince yourself that the film has peaked then, then go and watch them top it later on in the movie. The film itself has many trump cards, not least its leading man. Matt Damon fits the character of reluctant lead Jason Bourne perfectly, but the trick is to give him some excellent supporting players to work against. Thus, The Bourne Ultimatum also stars the excellent pair of David Straitharn and a returning Joan Allen, along with Albert Finney, Paddy Considine and Julia Stiles too. But the hidden hero of The Bourne Ultimatum is director Paul Greengrass. Arguably one of the most interesting and talented directors working today (he was rightly Oscar-nominated for his haunting United 93), Greengrass has fashioned a genuinely thrilling action thriller, that bursts with an energy and relentlessness that you simply have no right to expect. That he also managed to wrap up the story Jason Bourne's quest for his identity in the midst of it is all the more astonishing. A terrific end to an already-impressive trilogy, there's little else ot say about The Bourne Ultimatum, which is simply a near flawless piece of blockbuster entertainment. Put simply: don't miss this movie. --Simon Brew

Bad Boy Bourne April 9, 2008 Jason Bourne rocks....this movie grabs you from the opening scene and lets you go as the credits roll.
THE BEST actioner I have ever scene.
A great ending to a brilliant trilogy April 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Matt Damon was never on my list of favourite actors until The Bourne series. It's a cliche I know but Matt Damon was born to play Jason Bourne. I think that no film he's been in before or since has fitted him quite as well. For me, Matt Damon delivers his best performance yet in The Bourne Ultimatum.
If you are a fan of the first two Bourne movies, you will not be disappointed by The Bourne Ultimatum. For those who have seen the first two installments this installment fits all the information you've gathered in 'Identity' and 'Supremacy' and we finally see the full picture of Jason Bourne's troubled past.
The Bourne Ultimatum has a great plot and with fantastic action and fight sequences Ultimatum ranks as one of the best action movies of 2007.
on an action-packed level it delivers with gusto April 4, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
If frenetic action and loud explosions are your thing, you're going to love The Bourne Ultimatum. On an action-packed level it delivers with gusto. However, if your taste runs more toward dialogue and character development, you'll find yourself squirming halfway through and wondering how much longer until it's over. Being that I fall in the latter category, I could only see my way fit to give a 3-star rating. I can see and somewhat appreciate the edge-of-seat tension, but the plot left much to be desired...
Fantastic film, the best I have seen for a while April 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have to say that this is best movie I have seen in quite a while. Loads of action, great story, Matt Damon in great form. I love it. The three Bourne movies, taken together must be the best trilogy around, each one being a cracking movie on it's own. This particular film is intertwined with the second film, not that you have to see the second on to enjoy it, but it does help to understand it better. It's as well that the James Bond series has recently been revamped because they were definitely looking tired compared to the Bourne films. I would recommend this film.

Unintentionally funny comment on the brilliance of US Intelligence and the secret ways of organisations which in addition to ruling the world also control the cameras in London's Waterloo railway station.
For a country whose technological and military might so consistently proves to be unequal to, well, anything at all, this idiotic tripe may well have helped American audiences regain some faith in the competence of agencies on which billions of their tax dollars are annually squandered but for the rest of us it's a hoot from beginning to end: never at any time is it possible to believe in the "threat" Master Damon wastes all his days trying to evade, expose, and confound.
A script consisting almost entirely of third-rate melodramatic cliches -- 'close the perimeter in on the asset at five ten', 'shut down now on second sector targeting', 'secure outer cordon for go team access' -- can't even properly reflect the actual gibberish spouted in a world where Intelligence is an oxymoron.
But even as evidence of an all-powerful, all-seeing entity it's a non-starter: one look at the movie set in which the watchers spend their days is more than enough of a reminder that this is really a primary school playground within which small children are acting out their fantasies.
No point in lamenting the waste of time or talent here, though it's a shame that a director of Greengrass's stature associated himself with it. Hopefully he'll have got American juvenilia out of his system after this, and return to film-making for grown-ups.
