Amazon.co.uk Review What better way to commemorate Star Wars' 30th anniversary than with this double-length Very Special Episode, a full-scale, awesomely animated spoof that recasts George Lucas's saga with Family Guy's galaxy of characters: Chris (Seth Green) is Luke; Lois (Alex Borstein) is Princess Leia; Peter (Seth McFarlane) is Han Solo, but not, as expected, Jabba the Hut; Brian (Seth, again) is Chewbacca; Quagmire (and again, Seth) is C3PO; Cleveland is R2D2; Herbert, the creepy senior paedophile, is Obi-Wan (both voiced by Mike Henry); and, of course, Stewie (Seth, one more time) is Darth Vader ("My diapers have gone over to the dark side"). Poor Meg is reduced to a cameo as the hideous reptilian creature that haunts the garbage compactor. Blue Harvest is reverently faithful to A New Hope, while engaging in typical Family Guy pop-culture references (everything from old commercials to Doctor Who, Airplane, Dirty Dancing, and Deal or No Deal) and bizarre digressions (the iconic opening crawl detours into an appreciation of a "way naked" Angelina Jolie in Gia). Along for the wild ride are Judd Nelson, who contributes a voice cameo as John Bender for a Breakfast Club gag, Rush Limbaugh railing against futuristic affirmative action on Tatooine talk radio, and Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase as the vacationing Griswolds observing the rebellion from their orbiting station wagon. A Star Wars spoof in 2007 isn't exactly uncharted territory. As Chris Griffin notes in this episode's final moments, Robot Chicken brilliantly did it months earlier (and let us not forget Mel Brooks's Spaceballs from 1987; or, on second thought...). But the Force is strong with Family Guy, and who could resist the opportunity to hear the Muzak playing in a Death Star elevator? --Donald Liebenson, Amazon.com

"Aren't you a little fat for a Stormtrooper?" April 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
You'll probably already know that 'Blue Harvest' is the original Star Wars recast with the familiar faces of Quahog.
It begins with a subtle dig at The Simpsons. When the TV is not available Peter sits down to tell the family a story (a la Homer), declining to expand on the details of Meg's birth, Peter instead tells the story of Star Wars.
Then begins a string of gags and parodies ranging from Tom Baker's Doctor Who materialising in the swirling lights of hyperspace to Meg's brief cameo as the garbage pit monster.
It's all as funny as you'd expect from Family Guy but my one major gripe was that, at 45 minutes long, you really don't get much viewing for your money. Nevertheless, I look forward to the promised sequel; 'Something, something, dark side.'
You will laugh and then urinate. April 5, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
Blue Harvest is a parody but also a loving reproduction of 'A New Hope', to which I am referring to the quality of the reproductions of the set (seriously, watch New Hope and then this and you will see just how precise the cartooning is). As a Star Wars fan, I am not in any way taken aback by this, as you can clearly tell both from this and his episodes MacFarlane is also a fan, but the little digs at the film's minor plot holes and querks are so true and very well done. Family Guy's own style is not lost, and with all these so called 'disapointments' (e.g. the Simpsons Movie, Bender's Big Score and the Untold Story) you will be kept laughing all the way through IFF you don't watch it with a mind to be disappointed.
The only issue I have, as many do, is the price, which for only 45 minutes of new material is really too much. The special features do include one extra episode (north by north Quahog), but most fans will have long since bought the season 4 boxset from whence it came. However, it is thoroughly enjoyable and I would like to see the next to films have the same or similar treatment.
Uber let down March 29, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have got all family guy box sets, the christmas box set, and the stewie griffin story. love them all. however, found this to be a complete let down, and not at all worth the money. compared to what i've come to expect, there was very few laughs in this. while i watch my box sets often, and have seen every episode many times, i think this will be sat on my shelf for a long time, and not watched again. McFarlan, pull your socks up!!
One Star Wars March 23, 2008 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
Very poor spoof, few laughs in an over long episode. The animation is cool, but I wanted to laught at gags, not admire animation. I bought the special edition with the t-shirt, but there's no way I'll tarnish my good name wearing a t-shirt that represents such a poor episode.

Okay, so I admit I am a film school graduate and having been born in the mid seventies, Star Wars is a film that I have watched countless times. How wonderful it is to a have an all-time fave spoofed so well that it merits a re.watch just to make sure you caught all the gags and inside jokes. It's just SO funny!
Pure gold, rivalled only by American Dad's 'Tearjerker'.
