Amazon.co.uk Review Simon Pegg is clearly, right now, someone who can do little wrong at the box office. Run Fatboy Run follows hot on the heels of Hot Fuzz, and again finds its star delivering a quality comedy turn, in a film that boasts a good few laughs too. Directed by Friends star David Schwimmer, Run Fatboy Run casts Pegg as a security guard fed up of being outrun by the people he's supposed to catch. He's also determined to try and prove to his ex-fiancee (Thandie Newton) that he's a changed man, and thus decides to take on the London Marathon, where he'll be up against the new man in her life (Hank Azaria). Pegg is on good form in Run Fatboy Run, and genuinely delivers a character you want to root for. Yet it's the supporting players who walk off with the plaudits too. Dylan Moran in particular is in great form, as is Harish Patel, while the likes of Thandie Newton, Hank Azaria and David Walliams also turn in good work. Cleverly knowing not to outstay its welcome, and only occasionally stuttering under the weight of some laboured work behind the camera from Schwimmer, Run Fatboy Run is an easy, quite funny and light on the brain comedy, that helps cement Pegg's growing status as a quality leading actor. Worth checking out. --Jon Foster

Pegg in the ground May 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What hapened here? Weak script, tries to be a rom-com without fully committing to this genre and looses out big time in the pure comedy stakes. I like Pegg, but even he can't hold together this movie which crumbled before my eyes like a biscuit dunked too long in my cuppa....
Can't win them all, better luck next time Mr Pegg.
Fun, but weak in parts May 8, 2008 There are a couple of laughs here and there (Pegg's garbled reply to a reporter's question as he gasping for breath during his marathon attempt actually made me laugh out loud). However, overall the film seemed a little amateurish.
I didn't really understand where the poker players fitted into the story and some scenes were hopelessly over egged.
Despite this, Pegg is very likable and had the film been a little tidier in terms of script and direction, it may have been worth all the effort.
Yes it passed, but only just.

I like most viewers appreciate a bit of escapist viewing, where you have to think very little about what you are watching, but this is pretty poor.
The acting is wooden due to a bland and poorly written script and the chemistry between Simon Pegg and Thandie Newton is non existant, if laughable. Cringy, cringy, cringy... I'm a Simon Pegg fan and I think he could have done so much better. I know I should just accept this a bit of fluff but I expect that little bit more.
Two hours of viewing I won't get back :-(

Thin fodder April 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most of the previous reviewers have stolen my thunder. This film was a disappointment. It runs out of gags 1/2 hour from the end and reverts to predictable schmaltz. The tailoring of the film for the US audience is evident from the beginning (such as everyone in London lives in large georgian houses in scenic locations and is a "character" - see 4 Weddings, Notting Hill, etc) as is the ever-present product placement (try not to spot "Nike" at least once a minute)). All in all, Simon Pegg has let himself down a little after his great earlier work.
