Amazon.co.uk Review For those who found 2004's Aliens vs. Predator too lightweight in the gore-and-guns department, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem offers a marked improvement in both categories, as well as a respectable amount of rumbles between the title extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (which predates the story to all of the Alien features), Requiem sends a crippled Predator ship crashing to Earth in a small Colorado town; unbeknownst to the locals, the craft is loaded with H.R. Giger's insectoid monsters, which make quick work of most of the population. As the human cast is slowly whittled to a few hardy (if unmemorable) souls, a Predator warrior also arrives to complicate matters and do battle with the Aliens, as well as a ferocious Alien-Predator hybrid (dubbed a Predalien by the sci-fi and horror press). Visual-effects designers and music-video helmers The Strause Brothers (who make their feature directorial debut here) keep the action on frantic throughout, which is wise, since the dialogue and characters are threadbare at best; that should matter little to teenage male viewers, who are inarguably the film's key audience. Fans of the Alien franchise, however, may find the offhanded nod to the series' mythology given during the finale its sole saving grace. --Paul Gaita, Amazon.com

A vast improvement! May 13, 2008 I bought AVP2 because it's one of those films you just have to buy, known full well that it is likely to be pretty bad (and with predecessors like Alien(s) and Predator you can almost guarentee it's not going to beat the originals). I did the same thing with the first AvP and was terribly disappointed, with it looking more like a Power Rangers film than a merger of 2 epic sci-fi horrors.
I think the film makers realized that for AvP2 and decided to try going back to capture what made the originals so good. Whilst many parts feel familiar (skinned bodies, LOTS of gore, APC's, removing of face mask for the final battle and a sweet little girl), they do manage to add a little freshness. I was particularly happy to hear segments of music from both Aliens & Predator, which give you that old nostalgic feeling.
This is the film AvP 1 should have been! If you bought the first film, you owe it to yourself to get this one.
1 Star is 1 to much May 12, 2008 I love the original films and even liked the last A v P, this one sadly is a shocking disgrace. Think of american pie crossed with scary movie, teen american cheesy actors a plot that words cannot describe how bad it is even if i could swear here it still isnt enough, the plot sucks. The directors are brothers swine or something well they stink and im sure the original actors etc would be ashamed of this pile of crud, dont hire it and definatly dont buy it............Great Great shame could have been a good film turned out to be one of the worst EVERRRRRRRR.
Really, what did you expect? May 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, a classic?
Nothing will ever be as good as Alien. Aliens was an excuse for lots of Aliens and some gun play. Alien 3 was dire, a failed attempt to intellectualise. Resurrection brought us back some mystique with the Ripley 8 clone being not quite Ripley, but enough to satisfy the fans. Sigourney is too old to play our heroine so we look elsewhere.
Predator was a monster version of The Terminator; low budget, lots gore and a classic showdown. Predator 2 had more holes than a piece of emmental left on a shooting range, but it did the job.
AVP simply pandered, and gave us the beginnings of the Weyland-Yutani story. We saw Predators fight aliens and there was never going to be enough of that. AVP-R simply took over and gave us a look at 'what-if'.
Anyone who has seen The Creature from the black Lagoon will recognise its remake in Alien, but you can't keep re-making films and have any sort of surprise, these are for gore-fest fans and those with an unquenchable thirst for all things Alien/Predator. The same process goes into Saw, Nightmare on elm Street, Jason,, Halloween, etc.
I enjoyed it for what it was and I enjoyed some of the set pieces; the cool chick getting halved, the role reversal of wife making it while hubby gets eaten, bad boy doing good and the classic wuss turned Alien killer. Even seeing the town bully get waxed, which was predictable from the minute he beat the pizza guy up, was funny.
Alien/Predator films are not supposed to be deep, thought provoking exercises in how to achieve harmony through inter-species co-operation, they're horror films, B movies, something to make your girlfriend scared so she'll hang onto you. Dan O'bannon and Ronald Shusset accidentally made a genre buster, it was all destined to go downhill from there.
Unless someone persuades Peter Jackson to make the next one expect more of the same, I do!
It will be added to the collection.
A fair Movie... May 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having been a fan of the original Alien and Predator movies. Although i do have to say that Alien 3 and the second Predator movies were in my opinion not that good and poor follow-ups to the previous movies.
AVP the first movie was an outstanding movie and did justice to the original Alien and Predator movies. As for AVP 2: Requim i would have to say that this was an enjoyable movie without being an outstanding movie. No real story line and very poor dialogue. It lacked the impact of the first movie in which the group of humans were there to be sacreficed to the aliens and the predators were to complete a right of passage. This movie didnt really have that and was more like a sci-fi alien escape from prison movie with the predator as the bounty hunter.
As for effects and Gore well this does deliver on both of these in spades. IF you want a fun movie and one that does not require too much thought process then this is a movie for you.
I will say that i enjoyed the film but I would say that it was anywhere near as good as it could have been.
It's AvP May 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading some of the reviews i can say that most people have a point. but what i do think that the majority are missing the point that it.s Alien Vs Predator. two of the biggest monster franchises going thrown into each other. Ok the first AvP, predators rather weedy and died a little too easy for my liking. This time he's, literally, the daddy! I like to think of him as like a Mr Wolf from pulp fiction, goes to clean up a mess. And not a bad job he does untill they nuke him. bless. Acting, not to bad but then who cares about the humans. didn't expect the essance chick to catch it up. Shame. nice camels toe. I liked the film, yes i'm a geek to the franchise, but a very enjoyable film, theres a bit for everyone, rugged man, hot chick, aliens, predator, comedy, gore, bombs and a whip! Definatly worth a watch even if you haven't seen the first AvP, but it would help.
