Amazon.co.uk Review
If you're going for pop-rock gold-plating, radio airplay and slot or two sound-tracking Hollyoaks' opening sequences, you want to make a beeline for the big hitters when sieving through your influence list. So North Yorkshire four-piece One Night Only pay little heed to their surroundings and avoid coming out the other side just sounding like the Pigeon Detectives—-though there's certainly a hint of their unapologetically chipper anthem chasing, it's in the county's musical blood by now. Drafting in keyboards the size of an Antarctic ice shelf, "Just for Tonight" opens the album grabbing for The Killers' crown, and damn well gets a decent grip for a while. On that and "He's There" you can barely get a cigarette paper between the two in terms of style and tone, though One Night Only are burning smokeless fuel, there's no mistaking the cleanliness of their construct. Which also reveals the other side of their coin-jerky saccharine MOR in the mould of The Feeling and The Hoosiers, gushing freely (in the stage-managed sense) through "It's About Time" and "It's Alright". It seems that time spent playing in a Blink 182 covers band has rubbed off on their posture in some quarters of the album too--One Night Only clearly want to just get out there and make friends. No grand gestures, no manifesto and in spite of the title no pyrotechnics. Just good clean bundles of fun like "You & Me", essentially a Panda Pop Libertines. And where's the harm in that? --James Berry

5 out of 5 stars Way Beyond Expectations   May 14, 2008
I brought this album on the back of the single 'just for tonight' and because a friend told me it was good. To tell the truth i wasn't expecting much more than one or two good tracks, i was pleasently surprised. After listening to the album just once i preaty much enjoyed every song, each one have it own. If you liked the single, this albm is a must as there is only better to come.

4 out of 5 stars Great musical talent   April 13, 2008
I bought this album on the strength of 'just for tonight' and have not been disappointed. The musical intros to every song is first class and shows that this band is technically very strong and have much potential to grow and grow. For me they hit the perfect balance of uplifting tunes, good vocals and great technical skill by the band. Looking forward to seeing them live shortly.

4 out of 5 stars They're from Yorkshire, you know.   February 26, 2008

If you like the kooks you'll like this. If the Kooks get up your nose then this will get up your nose. Which is not to say that they are ripping off the Kooks; they just plough the same energetic catchy pop furrow. And what the heck is wrong with that? Tunes, lots of them; you can't say fairer than that. Your mates won't be impressed, if that's what your musical taste is governed by, but there is much here to justify the interest. Nothing beats the awesome Just for Tonight, however. And sadly, this version doesn't sound as good as the live 'unplugged' version I heard on the radio.

Just one more small quibble: the drums are way too busy, clattery and too high in the mix. But that doesn't make it a bad album, no indeed.

2 out of 5 stars a VERY generous 2 stars   February 23, 2008

mediocrity at its best. If this did not have the anthemic "just for tonight" it could certainly be main contender for worst album of 2008.
If you happen to like bland un-memorable music that doesnt make you want to dance or get stuck in your head, go for it.
On the plus side - Just for tonight is an absolute royal Tune, and you wont have to skip to get to it, as it is the 1st track. Sadly, you'll have to leap to stop the rest playing to avoid tarnishing such a great song (which NONE of the others are like - I was hoping to find these guys following in the wake of the Killers, by giving us the album they should have, instead of "Sams Rubbish" - but it's like a collection of bland kooks - which I find the kooks do well on their own)
My advice - get the single or download Just for tonight, and avoid this!

2 out of 5 stars I Had High Hopes, But...   February 22, 2008

Upon delivery of this album, I was immediately dissapointed. I had been a fan of You And Me, and Just For Tonight since I first heard them, but its what surrounds these 2 songs thats the problem. You And Me and Just For Tonight are 2 top-notch, catchy tunes, but the songs that surround them all sound the same!! After 3 complete plays of the album, I can only remember tracks 1, 2 and 3 (track 2 possibly because because it fills the gap between the 2 top tunes). The rest follow the same structure: Bassy drum to start, introduce guitar riff, quote song title, short verse, chorus that repeats the song name, short verse, chorus etc. It really is a disapointing effort in my opinion, as I was expecting much more from this group.
