Amazon.co.uk Review Cute, curly-headed diva Beth Rowley won many hearts with her charming Violets EP. Born in Peru and raised in the English West Country, Rowley has been mentored by Carleen Anderson and now follows up on the success of that EP with Little Dreamer, an album that continues her sweetly old fashioned, Motown-esque blend of blues, gospel, soul and jazz--all peppered with a classic mainstream sheen. Produced by Steve Power (Blur) and Kevin Bacon & Jonathan Quarmby (Richard Hawley, Finlay Quaye), the album discloses a voice as jaw-droppingly flawless and hopelessly compelling as a Norah Jones or Amy Winehouse, but with atmospheric traces of Karen Carpenter, Aretha Franklin and Eva Cassidy too. Tracks like the stunning gospel blues of "Almost Persuaded" and soulful single "Oh My Life" are good examples of what to expect from this cozy, feelgood album. The reggae pulse of "I Shall Be Released" tends to undermine the power and beauty of the original, but slow, heartfelt blues numbers like "One Cloud" more than make up for these blips. Rowley plays it safe on Little Dreamer, but it's a stunning collection nonetheless. --Danny McKenna

BETH HAS FINALLY MADE IT May 5, 2008 I have been a fan of Beths for the last couple of years since she been doing the London circuit and have recently been able to attain a copy of the album. The album doesnt disapoint but i have to say that the best songs are the same songs she released on her ep. If you want to listen to, in my view, one of the some outstanding voices in resent years buy the album.
Daft reviewing an album that you can't buy yet April 24, 2008 Daft reviewing an album that you can't buy yet, and yet I will say that I have 4 of the 11 tracks (bought of iTunes) which have already been released as an EP (Violets). I was blown away. iTunes give one song as their free song of the week, and I was so impressed I paid to down load the others. If the remaining 7 tracks are even half as good then this will be a great album. Only other new singer to approach Beth in quality is Brandi Carlile.
Saw her live! March 27, 2008 Saw Beth Rowley live supporting David Gray. She has a voice most singers would die for. Great power and real depth. If her album is half as good it'll be a treat.
Simply Stunning! March 26, 2008 After hearing Beth on Radio 2, i managed to get tickets to one of her live gig's in London. I had a small expectation of what i would hear after hearing the songs on the radio but I was totally blown away seeing her live! She appears to be quite timid and shy when speaking and introducing her songs but as soon as she starts singing she oozes class and sophistication. Her voice gave me goosebumps. I cannot wait to hear the album again. Definately a girl to watch out for in 2008. A voice like Beth's will last a lifetime.
Fab newcomer March 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just seen Beth at gig as support to David Gray. She is a huge talent. A massive bluesy, soulful voice out of a waif like frame. She just has to be the best newcomer around and will go on to be a star of the highest order.
