Just another pension fund May 11, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Before anyone gets nasty, I am an old rocker too - been a fan of all the big bands since the early sixties. This includes Whitesnake. I never liked Coverdale when he was part of Purple but when he formed Whitesnake i was a converted fan and saw the band many times. DC also brought out some old solo stuff which has one of the best rock ballads ever, Viz:Time and Again. However as with all good things, enough is enough! While I admit there are a few good sounds on the new album, it will never recapture the feel and excitement of the albums when they were at their best. Still - if it means that more people listen to rock, then I will concede there is a value to pension rock!
Oh Dear, Here He Goes Again!! May 7, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
David Coverdale is the classic example of a man for whom some US success (20 years ago) has completely stifled all talent and creativity. He has one of the greatest voices in rock and is a superb live performer (although the crotch rubbing is a bit scary at his age), but he insists on trying to recapture his most financially (albeit brief) lucrative moments. In short this is soulless, unoriginal, cliched, 80's hair metal-by-numbers on a cringeworthy scale. "Good to be Bad" will only ever appeal to middle-aged men and the occasional MILF (or GILF!!!) who still think they look good in spandex. Although 1987 was, on the whole, a good album it was certainly where the rot set in for Cov. That album still had some soul and great songwriting, although the truly dreadful "Bad Boys" was simply inexcusable. Well, "Good to be Bad" is a whole album full of "Bad Boys" with different (equally bad) lyrics. Even his last two albums (Restless Heart and Into The Light) had some class and promise, I can only guess that the some clueless suit stepped in to change all that and "Good to be Bad" is the result. Unless you're one of the aforementioned I suggest you save you money and invest in some reissues instead. Dave, you're so much better than this, make the album that you want to make not the one that your record company say that you have to!
Pure Genius!! May 1, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The wait has been far too long but with as tight a unit as coverdale has gathered in such a long time this record will not fail to please any snake followers. I've been a snake fan all my life and after being disappointed seeing them at Edinburgh Playhouse in the late eighties I thought they were majestic at the Carling Academy in Glasgow in 2006. With Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach hammering out the strings you just know you are in for a treat and Chris Frazier is a more than able replacement for Tommy Aldridge. The thing I like about this album is the fact that it doesn't pretend to be something it's not! This is a no holds barred, balls to the wind, unashamed Melodic hard rock album that MUST BE PLAYED LOUD AND PROUD!! Welcome back to your best guys - Keep Rockin'
The Gods of Rock! May 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is proper Rock, this is the must have album of the decade, Whitesnake are showing all the other so-called rock bands how it is done! - buy it now!! WOW! Amazing! Every track is solid gold and David Coverdale's voice is one of the best in rock. Don't miss out on this album if you are a Whitesnake fan, and if you are not, well you have no taste in music!
Listen and enjoy April 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album has to be heard a few times to fully appreciate the work that has gone into making this soon to be classic Whitesnake album. Don't expect to hear your lovehunter or trouble here, these guys have moved onto another level but still retain that extra special Whitesnake magic. Over the many years I have been an avid Whitesnake fan D.C. never ceases to amaze me. He continually grows in his music genius. I am looking forward to seeing them in the summer for the, umm, well so many times, who cares I will be bopping till me bones ache........again. All true Whitesnake fans will buy this album and I am telling you, you will love it.
