Make your dentist love you January 3, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you're wondering if you should get an electric toothbrush then consider this. Dental work can cost thousands and these cost a fraction of that - get one!
This is the third electric toothbrush I have had. The first was an earlier model from Braun, the second was a budget model quickly replaced with this. Cheap brushes do the job but have drawbacks that prevent them from providing the full advantages that an electric brush can provide. This model has those advantages.
The first advantage is a very simple practical one. Brushing your teeth is not the world's most exciting task so anything that reduces the tedium and brings some order to it makes the task less boring at which point it is more likely to be done and more likely to be done well. It's still not going to be an exciting task but with a two minute timer and a quadrant timer every thirty seconds this makes the whole process much more methodical. The other main advantage is that most people brushing manually don't do a very good job; get an electric toothbrush and it's much harder to do it wrongly.
It sits tidily on the bathroom window ledge with it's container holding four heads, making it ideal for the family although we use it to contain two main heads and an interdental head and pick. Which is one of the advantages of the braun range, there seem so be a wider range of heads and attachments available than for some manufacturers so it you want an interdental head, as I do, or a interdental cleaner, as my wife does, then they are available. The container also houses the charger which can be safely left connected so you shouldn't find this is running out of charge at any time.
Although not a 'budget' toothbrush if you look around you can find this available at fairly hefty discounts although the brush heads are comparatively expensive. I suspect these are in the same league as printers in that respect, sold cheaply but the accessories are where the manufacturers' profit margin lies. Even if that's the case I won't begrudge it too much as replacement heads, while they might cost two or even three time price of a toothbrush, are still cheaper than dental work.
Are there any problems with this? Well the only problem I have found is that recently my wife has taken to using a philips sonicare which she prefers. I still prefer this, so every once in a while now we find that one or the other hasn't been charged.
Overall - almost perfect. Buy one and make your dentist love you but shop around and don't pay full price.
Brilliant toothbrush December 26, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is an amazing product and well worth the price. It cleans superfast and leaves the teeth shiny and clean. I've been back to the dentist and they commented on the health of my teeth and it is all about this toothbrush. But please DO use it with the 2 minute timer if you want the results!
Very good toothbrush October 15, 2007 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is my first electric toothbrush, and I been using it for almost a month now. Very pleased with the purchase I must say.
Just like another reviewer, I ordered this toothbrush mainly because it come with its own storage container. It's very useful since I'm using two different brushheads at the moment.
It took about 19 hours to charge everytime (three times for me now; I use it at least 5 times per day), but it gives me about 60-62 minutes.
I wasn't too impressed with the tongue cleaner and the interdental cleaner either, only used both once, and don't think I will ever use them again.
The first reviewer mentioned about the free travel case... it only comes with "8500 Deluxe Version", so you won't find it if you order this! However, I managed to get one for five pounds (including postage), you need to contact with the Braun and their customer service will tell you where you will be able to find one.
I got it from Amazon for 28 pounds when its in discount price, and it's worth every penny! However, I don't think I will pay it for the full price. If you don't mind without the storage container, Professional Care 7000 only costs 25 pounds at the moment. I would suggested to get that one instead. And if you really need the travel case, just make two phone call (first one to the customer service helpline, of course) and spend another 5 pounds, they send out the case very fast!
Very pleased with this toothbrush, and if you can find it cheap, but it! Or alternative, Professional Care 7000 is very similar to this 8500. Go for 7000 if you don't mind without the storage container.
Nearly Perfect June 7, 2007 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
My Philip's Sensiflex decided to die on me just before Easter and after a little bit of searching I fouund this electric toothbrush. As it was half price from Argos and comes with a money-back guarantee from Oral-B, I parted with the cash.
I have to say, that my main reason for buying this brush is because it comes with it's own storage container, and not many toothbrushes out there have this particular feature.
It pulsates 40,000 times and oscillates 8,800 times per minute. The first time you use it, it does take you by surprise and it is normal for your teeth to bleed the first couple of times you use it. However, I love how clean my teeth feel after I've brushed them and I wouldn't part with this brush for the world.
Though this brush does come with a pressure sensor, unlike my old brush it does not move away from your teeth if you exert too much pressure. The brush starts to make a different sound and you then have to move the brush away to stop it pressing against your teeth too hard. I would suggest pressing too hard against your teeth once, so that you know what to listen for.
The first time you use the brush, it also takes 17 1/2 hours to charge, if you don't use it. After that, in order to fully charge the battery from flat it takes 20 1/2 hours, if you use the brush. But, this gives you 56 minutes of charge. My old brush charged in 16 1/2 hours and you only got 32 minutes worth of charge.
I wasn't too impressed with the tongue cleaner and the interdental cleaner, so I don't use them now. Also, the manufacturer claims that you will notice that your teeth will be whiter in 21 days, but they don't provide you with any gauge to check this. So, on some days I have thought that my teeth have looked whiter, but I'm not sure whether this is wishful thinking on my part. Also, unlike my old brush, this one doesn't tell you when it is going flat.
It looks very sturdy and it doesn't feel cheap at all. I wasn't too sure about the colour for the first couple of days, but now I really like it.
The only reason I will not give this product 5 stars is because I cannot attest to its durability.
I'm not sure whether I would have purchased this bursh if I had to pay full price for it, as there are other brushes in the Oral-B range, such as the Professional Care 7000 series and I think that pulsates and oscillates as much as my brush does, but is only 29.99 at the moment.
Good but don't be fooled like me January 26, 2007 18 out of 24 found this review helpful
The one thing I wanted in a new electric toothbrush was an indicator to tell me when the battery was going flat. So when I saw the pic of this one and read 'Full charge indicator' I ordered. However, what I thought was a charge indicator on the brush (the series of 6 shapes that get larger) are simply printed on graphics. The 'Full charge indicator' is just a light that glows steady blue when its been on the charger and is full. Boooooooo.
Anyway, I had binned my old one (also a Braun), this is fine, seems to clean much better than the old one and I like the pressure indicator that stops me pressing too hard. But still wish I had one that told me it was going flat :(
