Replaced my previous Remington with this one February 13, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was impressed with the older version of this product and wanted a like for like replacement. This is a great little product and good to see that the upgraded version that Remington now offer has retained the build quality.
Outstanding beard trimmer November 3, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
The Remington MB42C replaced a Wahl HomePro Basic. This makes the comparison a bit too easy for the MB42C as the Wahl is by a long shot the worst cutter I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing: a heavy, noisy, ineffectual piece of rubbish. By contrast, the MB42C was a delight to hold and to use: smooth, quiet, ergonomic, highly effective. The best beard trimmer I have ever had, and that even goes for a mighty Braun which I had in the 1990s, now discontinued. For the price, it's almost a giveaway; in fact,I doubt you can get a better trimmer than the MB42C at any price.

The basic concept of the MB42 is much the same as for many other brands of trimmer, so we should really be looking at how well Remington have implemented this and, I'm happy to say, they've done very well indeed. This Chinese manufactured device is solidly built, with a powerful motor and Ni-Cad batteries that provide plenty of use between charges. There's a low charge warning light too, so if the worst comes to the worst, you can, unlike much of the competition, simply plug the trimmer into a mains socket and keep going. The MB42 is comfortable to hold, the comb adjustment 'zoom' wheel falling conveniently under the thumb. The only small criticism is that it isn't the easiest device to clean, especially with the tiny brush provided. Nevertheless, this an excellent product and can be highly recommended. With a failure rate of only 1% and a two year guarantee, it really is excellent value.
Missed advertised facility on an otherwise good product December 30, 2005 26 out of 33 found this review helpful
My wife bought this for me for Xmas off my wishlist and whilst it is a good beard trimmer it lacks one of the advertised features. It does not operate direct from the mains. This is one of the main reasons I chose it as all my previous trimmers have had occasions where the battery life has decayed making the trimmer unusable, I wanted this to overcome that problem. I was dissapointed. I should point out. Nowhere in the manual or on the box does it say that it does opperate from the mains. This may just be Amazon who have advetised it incorrectly. However it does a nice job, it is English and they do tell you where to get replacement batteries from.
