2 out of 5 stars A love hate relationship   April 20, 2008

I have extremely unmanageable hair, GHD's have been my saviour in the last couple of years but after killing off 2 pairs I need to look elsewhere (before they bankrupt or kill me). At just under a year the first pair started to spark around the lead joint and eventually went on fire. My 2nd pair (MK4) have lasted only 6 months, they would beep continuously and, as another user noted, it was they not I that were in control of whether they wanted to switch on. That pair finished off with a melt down; the glue from the ceramic plates started smoking before the the plates fell off completely. They are fantastic when they are working but there is a major quality issue. They were a market leader but my view is that there must now be others that can do the job - I certainly hope I can find them - my hair is a mess.

5 out of 5 stars The Best by far   December 13, 2007

First of all i would like to say something to the negative comments made by others that these are the best by far straighteners around.
I first bought mine when they first came out over six yrs ago and have only just stopped working. I to sent mine back but as they were a mk1 model they could not fix them and were out of warrenty. GHD wrote to me and gave me a % off a new pair to which i was happy with as they were so old.
I am hairdresser i would recommend these to anyone as they do what they say. I to agree with ghd they should not be used every day as it does damage your hair and irons (and this is with any irons too).
You only need to spend a good amount of time straightening when first washed and should stay in shape until next washed or gets wet.

GHD ARE THE BEST OUT THERE !

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - The best straighteners out there   August 7, 2007

The mark 3 versions were amazing but these ones are even better. The extra cable is much needed and the varying voltage allows you to use it in foreign countries. No more holidays to America where you find out your beloved GHDs won't work as they should :-).

What I love about GHDs and what is obvious when compared to other brands, is that they lock in moisture and minerals in your hair due to the Infra-Red heat they emit. This means that your hair always keeps its good condition (obviously be aware that straightening damage can still occur if your abuse them lol).

To the person who complained about their GHDs not working and to the person who said GHD didn't want to know. That is not the response I have found. I know that GHD have taken peoples straighteners back (when their warranty has expired) and found they have been faulty and offered to trade them in and offer new MK4 ones for half price.

While for some it may seem steep forking out about 100 for these but they really really do a fantastic job. My opinion is what is 100 for the knowledge that you may never have a bad hair day in your life again

5 out of 5 stars It's in the past   July 13, 2007

The last two reviews, you'll notice, are for original models of this product. Everybody knows there were problems in the beginning. My wife has had her GHD straighteners for at least 3 years, an original model. Not once have they 'blew up' or stopped working. Now this new model is out, I'm pretty sure GHD will have 'ironed' out any problems.

1 out of 5 stars they just keep breaking!!!   June 8, 2007

I have had these GHD irons since 2003. The 1st pair i had lasted 2 months and then the light kept cutting out. and finally the irons sparked in my hand a blew up. i took them back to the salon where i bought them, they said they'd replace them for me as there was a faulty batch. ( this was not long after it appeared on watchdog.) Happy, i went off with my new irons. 7 months down the line, the same thing happens! back to the salon, who replaced them yet again for the same model. i'm now on my 3rd pair and currently living abroad. i've had these for about a year now and a few months a go i noticed the little red light cut out when i was using them. It came back on after a few seconds so i wasn't too bothered. However, they then continued to work purely on a " when they wanted to" basis. They now will not turn on at all. I cannot belive that 3 pairs of the same product all were faulty with the same problem. I contacted GHD who just say send them to us and we'll test them. ( they don't need testing, they don't even turn on.) I think for the money they want for this product you should be able to get more that a yr's use. Whats more these are salon products. used daily on clients hair. However, you use them for 20 min's a day and your " over using them" thats why they don't work. according to GHD. I would strongly advise against this products. more hassell then their worth. their great. If you can get them to work. I think i'll get my money back and go elsewhere. after all 3 pairs is a complete joke. GHD need to really sort their customer after care out. Not to mention their products. Hope this helps anyone tempted to buy these irons.
