So easy to set up. February 11, 2008 I purchased this when i moved on to cable broadband so that i could share my internet wireless across the house.
On taking out of the box and following the instructions i was up and running in less than 15 minutes. On further reading i had a secure lock downed wireless network after 30 minutes. I used this for 3 years with out any problems and only changed because of a move to a none cable area.
Excellent piece of kit.
So easy! November 2, 2007 Had this set up in 10 minutes running Virgin Media Broadband and Windos vista.Downloaded the Vista driver from the netgear site, then run the program and it was done(dont use the wep security on your router use WPA,i i think!, though if using virginbroad band)That the only problem I had.
Idiot proof July 26, 2007 This an excellent product.
This was the 6th different type of router I've used to set up a wireless Network & it was by far the easiest to do. Sometimes it's best to bin the manufacturers guide but this one looked simple I gave it a shot.
In 30 minutes I had a PC & 2 lap tops up & running. It looks great & the signal is good. Upstairs as far away from the router as I can get there is about a 40% drop in signal.Considering that's through 4 or 5 brick walls & maybe 35ft away I don't think thats bad at all.
It has a 100ft range with no obstructions but for a about 30 more there is a 200ft range model available. Netgear will definitely be my first choice for more new kit.
Very poor range July 9, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This router is fine in almost all respects except that it has a very poor range.
For a reliable connection that doesn't drop out every five minutes (literally) you have to be really quite close to it, and any walls (which unfortunately, Netgear, people do tend to have in their homes) seem to present a big problem. I know walls are big killers for radio signals in general but they must deal with this.
If I'm in line of sight of the router I can get a "100%" signal according to my wireless adapter. In the next door room, not all that far away, it drops to 40% and the connection becomes patchy to unusable.
What's the *point* in wireless that doesn't work unless you're nearly right next to the damn thing...??
Faultless March 19, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have used this for well over a year now. It has done everything I have asked it to do. Strong signal which never drops. I use Virgin broadband and Macs using OS 10.4+. I have dropped a star because the instructions could be alot better especially for a comparative novice like me. However after some trial and error I got it up and running and have never looked back. Can't understand why some previous reviewers have had problems. Highly recommended.
