Product Description
NETGEAR's WGXB102 gives you the ability to have wireless Internet access originate from any power outlet in the home, with no visible cables.Receive Wireless Internet Access from any Power Outlet in Your Home:As home networking continues to spread and evolve at rapid speed, some users find that their wireless router does not reach all corners of their home, or that they would like to have their wireless network originate from a point of their choosing, rather than be tethered to the point where the Internet enters their home. Other users would rather have a wireless network where no product is on the floor, and no cables are visible at all.The WGXB102 allows the user to have their wireless network originate from the middle of their home, or from even the furthest extremity, with no cables visible. The kit consists of the XE102 Wall-Plugged Ethernet bridge and a WGX102 54 Mbps Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extender. The XE102 connects to an existing wired or wireless router from any vendor, and the WGX102 can be plugged into any electrical outlet to create an area of wireless access.Novel:Plug the XE102 into a wired or wireless router from any vendor, and then plug the WGX102 into any power outlet at your desired location to provide wireless access where desired.Attractive:A new wall-plugged form factor allows the user to have a full wireless network without any visible Ethernet cables, and without any floor or desk space occupied. The sleek platinum casing blends well into any home decor.

5 out of 5 stars Easy way to extend your wireless network   March 11, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I found this very easy to set up. I used it to extend my existing wireless network. If you have Vista or XP ignore the instructions they confusingly suggest you change your existing settings. Do not bother installing any of the included configuration utilities.
Plug the units in. In the remote location use search for available wireless networks and select NETGEAR. Once connected open your browser and type in 192.168.0.10. user name is admin and password is password. Change your SSID to match your existing network (case sensitive) and type in your WEP key.
It is working across a different ring main without problems.

1 out of 5 stars A waste of a day   February 10, 2008
If you have a day free, please buy this item and try and set it up. I started setting this up at 10:30am and I thought it would be ok to setup as I've had many years of experience with PC's. Little did I know, it's 7:30pm and I still haven't set it up yet!

I knew it was not going to be straight forward as I have read all the reviews. I got this item as I have a Netgear Router so I thought it would go 'hand in hand' with this. I started by trying it with an unsecured network. Couldn't get this working. The instructions are pretty vague in terms of what NOT to do. If you do make a mistake, you need a spare pin or paper clip handy so you can reset it. The amount of times I've done that today is untrue!?!!

I've tried setting it up unsecured and secured and still not working correctly. I have tried all the ways it suggests, in different sequences but still nothing. It finds the network ok but you can't get internet access.

My last attempt was to phone the Netgeat Helpline which is charged at National Rate. I eventually got through to someone who's name I cannot pronounce, let alone spell. They were definitely in a different country and their product knowledge was pathetic. I was put on hold quite a few times, whilst she was probably talking to her team leader. We tried a few things which didn't work, I even turned off Norton Firewall and this did nothing either. In the end, I got eggy and said that it made me feel like commiting suicide. Straight after that, I hung up.

More money down the pan, aswell as what I paid for the item. I wasted 9 hours of my day trying to sort this out and it angered me, beyond belief. Unfortunately when two Netgear products are put together, it certainly doesn't make it easier. I feel for those who have a different make of router!

Finding my way into the thing was hard enough. It gives you the address but it hardly works often so you can't the settings of the extender. Yeah you can match the settings up with your router but it doesn't want to work. Not only that, I dare not leave these things plugged in. There are roasting! Surely not made for leaving on 24/7.

it's done my head in and I think I'm gonna sell it. I'm sure if it worked, it would be ok but the hassle i've had, is simply not worth it. This will definitely put you in a bad mood!

1 out of 5 stars IMPORTANT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY   January 9, 2008

Netgear's sales blurb implies that you can plug this network extender in anywhere in the house and it will work. Not true. It will only work if the electrical socket you are using to power the unit connected to your router is on the same electrical circuit as the electical socket into which you want to plug the unit that rebroadcasts the signal. In my case I had a router downstairs and wanted to extend the circuit into my daughter's room upstairs. This product didn't work because the downstairs ring main was on a different circuit to the upstairs ring main - which I am guessing is an extremely common feature of the way houses are wired. The implication is that this product will only work in specific and probably quite limited conditions. So check your electrical circuits before you buy!

(also check the web for numerous complaints that these units give up the ghost after a year or so. I never got that far!)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent product. Go for it.   December 17, 2007

I had problems with my wireless network range, especially with my Internet Radio(Pico Revo),which would work only within 5 metres from my Linksys WRT54 router ,but the WBXB102 solved it completely. Believe me I tried everything mentioned in several forums in the last few weeks. I upgraded the firware of my router to 'dd-wrt', tried the high-gain antenna, tried the Linksys wireless Range Extender, replaced my 'g' router with a 'n' router, but none of these worked for me, until I tried the WGXB102. now I can listen to Sudan radio station in my consevatory and in the garden. my laptop has never been so fast(3550 kbs), so, I AM IMPRESSED! just follow the instuctions from the CD carefully, and download the Configuration Utility to your laptop and it will do the job for you. don't try calling the Netgear technical support centre in India, it's simply a waste of money. great product , shame on the tecnical support. By the way the WGXB102 costs 125 at PC World!(50 more than Amazon). a ripp off in my opinion. well done Amazon.

1 out of 5 stars No Good!   October 25, 2007

Very disappointed, brought this item to improve signal strength on recommendation made by NETGEAR.
I can honestly say it made no difference at all. Also, unless you are using your wireless internet without a security / WEP password it's a complete nightmare to configure.
Further disbelief, it's on sale at 120.00gbp at PC World! Rip off.
