Amazon.co.uk Review In the end it will probably be to the benefit of European gamers that the PS3 was delayed, since it will give Sony the chance to put together a much more impressive line-up of launch games than greeted the console in America and Japan. Resistance was easily the best of the U.S. launch games - a first person shoot `em-up from the creators of Ratchet & Clank. The game's story is based around an alternate version of World War II where instead of Nazis you're facing off against the insect-like Chimera in a war torn Britain (naturally you're playing an American though). It's basically Call Of Duty meets Doom. The game doesn't use the tilt sensors of the Sixaxis controller for movement but it does demonstrate the improved build quality of the analogue sticks, which previously made first person shooters difficult on the PS2. The tilt sensors are used in a variety of secondary roles though, such as when you have to shake off a monster or if you get set on fire. Despite the faux WWII setting, most of the game's weapons are fantastical and, as with Ratchet & Clank, are probably the highlight of the whole game. All have secondary fire modes, from grenade launchers to homing bullets. The armour piercing Auger for example, also doubles as a shield. There are also vehicle based sections, including a particularly fun ride in an almost indestructible tank. Although the single player game is well above average, the criticism about the sometimes generic art and design are not entirely without foundation. Thankfully this is compensated by an excellent forty person online mode - a huge achievement for a launch game and a very good sign for future online PS3 games. HARRISON DENT

RFoM: The real review May 13, 2008 OK , I got this game last year and played it. i found it challenging, thats what I was looking for. My friend also played this game, he enjoyed it too. BUT some of the intel docs are as useless as my brother in a music exam. The stalker was not original, it is a copy from Insomniacs other game Ratchet: Gladiator, that disapointed me a bit. The Golaiths were just bigger Stalkers. The idea though of the Cloven really got me thinking, were they un-mutated but still infected soliders or just the test subjects? It was REALLY good for thinking. I liked un-locking Clank on multiplayer.
I felt sad when Will Smith's newest film "I Am Legend" plagerised the story a bit. I thought it was unecaserry to write a film.
My fave character was the British males solider. He was a good one. Hale was a weird character.
Overall, 5 stars for fun, 4 for overall. It COULD have been a five IF they invented a new vehicle instead of the stalker.
this is the best May 13, 2008 its very difficuled to describe this game because its so good the gameplay is not to short i had a view days to play the characters are not perfect but it was the first game on the ps3 so thats ok the monster are scary and they are set good in the story specilly the misson in the cheddar is the best ever i would highly recommend this game to anybody who likes cool gameplay nice weapons and a lot of fun

i had this game the day i got my ps3 and played it and sold it it was so easy and boring it like sony entertainments worst game get call of duty 4 its much better
Call of duty meets halo March 31, 2008 I cannot however say if it is better than a call of duty game as I have only played CoD 3 briefly, however the setting is similar but the alian aspect shows hints of halo. Also halo style there are vehicles to use, sdly not so many, nor re they quite s good. This gamne isn't a classic but the campaign is enjoyable and not too long, maybe too short if anything. As a XBOX owner as well I have to say halo three is superior, but hopefully a sequel will comes close to beating thr xbox behemoth.
Does not date that well March 17, 2008 Note: I have not yet played COD 4!
I've been playing this after getting it at the end of last week because I thought I'd take advantage of this game being priced at the budget end for ps3 games (good to see prices falling). First point then, the price represents good value at 20 even if the game is not outstanding.
After playing UT3 for a few weeks this naturally felt slow and after playing uncharted i felt slightly miffed at the half-baked regenerative health system and complete lack of cover. When in a fight with the chimera you have to resort to time crisis duck and shoot tactics or just get in their faces and strafe round them. It's pretty annoying to do the latter and then get battered by another 5 or 6 hidden round the corner. the game seems very gung ho but you need an element of stealth and that is frustrating in a FPS game.
Otherwise, if you can get past some relatively minor niggles the game plays well and the chimera are easy to hate which makes it satisfying to blow them away.
Overall, good value for money but bear in mind this game is roughly 7/10.
