Not compatible with compatibles! May 3, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I first started using this printer I thought Wow! It really is streets ahead of the Epsons I've used over the years. I use my printer a lot for printing cartoons so lots of vibrant colours but it's also excellent for photographs. I was amazed that the original cartridges lasted 4 months! Never been known with the amount of printing I do. The problem came when I had to replace the cartridges. Canon's cartridge prices are scary. So I bought compatibles. They lasted three weeks! The colour is terrible. No amount of head cleaning or fiddling would get my colours anywhere near. So I'm waiting for delivery of genuine Canon cartridges (Nearly fifty quid a set!) and hope that solves the problem. It's obviously not compatible with compatibles. If the genuine cartridges last as long as the originals with the same quality, I'll be a happy man. I'll let you know.
Another piece of winning kit from Canon May 3, 2008 This is robust and well made printer. With 5 separate ink tanks it tackles all sorts of jobs effortlessly. From documents to photographs. I was amazed at the quality of photo prints in normal mode, then I repeated the print in a higher print mode and it was even better. Plus it prints duplex!! This is a I suppose it's only downside is that it hasn't got card slots, but lets face it most modern PC and Laptops have, plus if you digi camera has pictbridge then you're sorted.

A good, solid versatile printer April 15, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
A grateful thanks to all previous reviewers. On their recommendation, I have bought this machine and not been disappointed. It was all and even more than what was written. Very versatile machine; especially where ink economy is concerned: have done a lot of printing work, and ink levels have hardly moved. This has to be compared to Epson inks, print one page and their cartridge(s) is/are practically empty. It prints quickly, too. A good solid machine. I would also recommend it to any would be purchaser.
inspired and beautiful and fantastic April 13, 2008 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Beautiful design makes this printer a lovely thing in its own right and what a performance! After years with epsom printers got fed up of what seems endless head cleaning going on and the pricey inks. So researched printers and reviews on amazon and went for this Canon. Glad I did.. easy set up, wonderful prints- really fast and love that you can feed in paper from a tray at bottom as it saves having all that paper hanging out over a top feed tray (but there is that option to!) appreciate that its also a great looking design and quiet and so far extremely reliable. thoroughly reccomend**** (and the inks don't cost too much either!)
My first Canon printer April 12, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Ive always used Epson printers, so this is my first canon printer, and I havent had this canon Pixma iP 4500 for very long, but I am well pleased with it and have used it quite regularly for document printing and photo printing, I'm amazed at the speed it operates, a lot faster then my Epson R300 photo printer, and the printouts have excellent results (better than epson) and with 2 paper feeder trays, you dont have to muck about changing from plain white paper to photo glossy paper, just preload each tray with each individual type. Although there is an instruction drop down help as you use the printer; (if you need to); I would have liked a printed insruction book with the printer and also a better installation instruction sheet for installing the printer drivers and software, anyway, I managed, all up and running with very good results....John.H
