The perfect solution? May 10, 2008 I had just recently purchased a new laptop and duely loaded my favored Norton anti virus software and set about my usual surfing routine, I am by nature very paranoid about virus' and the like so I regularly did full system scans, however, whilst surfing I discoverd that ad's were popping up everytime I moved to a new website, a quick scan with Norton told me all was well as did a full scan, it was this that sparked me into some research.
A quick search on google (With annoing ad's still present) led me to a horrible realisation, Norton was garbage!. I quickly searched for an alternative and after reading many reviews I settled on Kaspersky.
I started slow, downloading the trial software for free off of their website. After installation it immediatly found 12 virus' and disinfected and deleted them. Over the next few days Kaspersky worked quietly in the background only making it's presence known when there was a security issue.
After seeing the amazing results (which included speeding up my computer) I decided to purchase a full license and I've not looked back.
Faster computer, Superior virus detection, And much better peace of mind.
By this product and you'll realise how poor your current software is!.
Requires fast PC May 9, 2008 I am using this on 1.8GHz Windows XP machine with 1GB RAM and it is just not enough for this to run without causing annoying slowdowns. I'd imagine that you would need 2GB of RAM and a faster processor for it to run satisfactorily, even more so if you are using Windows Vista. If you have a fast machine, this package probably has the best anti-virus, but the firewall is not quite as user friendly as Zone Alarm.
Good Product May 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having used Norton Internet Security for years and whilst it's a very good and thorough internet protection software which has never let me down, it slows your machine down terribly. So coming up for a subscription renewal I thought I'd have a change. Checking out magazines and Amazon reviews pointed me in the direction of Kaspersky Internet Security. However, it's important if you are replacing Norton with any other internet protection to remove all traces of Norton. If you don't it can cause all sorts of conflicts with your new protection software. Add/remove doesn't remove all of Norton, so you need to download the special Norton removal tool from the Symantec website. There are two install options for Kasperky, custom and default. Custom is useful for people with a reasonable knowledge of computers; novices should use the default option which installs the essential stuff. You can change this later if you wish. Kasperksy installs quickly and effortlessly, then you get the updates online to complete your protection. The first thing I noticed was that my computer responds much quicker, everything loading and opening much faster. Especially internet browsing. The Kaspersky interface is simplicity itself, very user friendly. The protection runs in the background, unobtrusively giving you protection against a multitude of horrors, and updates itself with new signatures hourly. Because these updates are hourly they are only small files measured in Kb's rather than Mb's and as such have virtually no slowdown effect on your machine, plus the protection is right bang up to date.
1 star is still too generous for this software April 24, 2008 this software really is bad...i thought that norton was bad (it is) but it doesnt compare to this. this software really slows your computer, the same if not more than norton. it's not like im a novice to computers as i am doing a computer science degree, but this software is so complicated to use.
the firewall does not seem to block anything, and the antivirus doesnt seem to pick much up. i recently formatted my pc and installed kaspersky from the disk...i immediatley installed all available updates for it so it was completely up to date. a few days after the fresh install, i did a virus scan with kaspersky, nothing showed up...i thought that this was strange as i was getting popups and error messages for bits of software that had appeared within windows that i hadnt installed, so i downloaded AVG free. i did a scan with this and it found 53 harmful items. HOW COME KASPERSKY DIDNT FIND THIS. i have recently bought AVG from the grisoft website and trust me it is much better...there is barley any performance loss from AVG and it does not slow down my system at all, and it is much easier to use.
if you want my advice, buy AVG i certainly will be from now on.
Speeded up computer unbelievably! March 20, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Had Norton for last two years and computer was getting slower and slower so decided to change. The initial system scan did take a long time but after that loading programmes and web pages was much quicker. (I have windows xp)
The initial default settings are set to 'child' and not 'adult' so change if it doesn't let you load some web pages. Took me ages to figure that out!
Would highly recommend.
