I bought Paint Shop Pro X2 a couple of months ago to learn how to make drawings on my computer and to touch up and edit photos.
+Paint Shop Pro X2 was quick and easy to install and use. I have not had any problems with it freezing or crashing yet, either.
+I am still 'new' to it, but already I have made drawings I am proud of. (There are plenty of online tutorials to show you how - just do a search.)
+The grey background is smart and easy on the eyes. Important, if you are spending a lot of time working on an image.
+There are many interesting and arty effects available. (I especially like using the 1970s style from the Time Machine on my photos, for a warm, 'vintage' look.)
Not much else to say from me, except if you too are thinking of buying an image editing program, but don't want to spend too much, I would strongly suggest Paint Shop Pro X2. :)

I am running this on a 2 year old PC with a 2.8Ghz processor and 2 Gb of RAM and it runs fine. Before buying, I downloaded the trial version of both X2 and Elements 6 and chose to go with X2. I felt that Elements 6 had vastly superior Raw processing capability but once you got into Tiff/JPEG work, it imposed too many limits on what I wanted to do. However, Corel definitely need to get their act together on Raw processing - they are behind the curve on this aspect of image processing,hence only 4 stars Other than the Raw issue, I am very happy with X2 and think it is excellent value.

For 40, this is good value. I downloaded the trial version first, with update and no real problems. I then bought this version and loaded the key into the trial version to convert it. My computer is average and uses XP SP2. Where these horror stories come do not align with my experience. The support is available but so far no reasonable response, the KB says my camera's predecessor RAW format is supported, but my camera with only cosmetic differences is not, and will not work. The effort to make my camera work is 3 minutes work, however in 9 months no upgrade has been made available. Corel are not doing themselves any favours, as people likely to buy this product are likely to use RAW format.

Don't believe those who say this program doesn't run well. You only have to look their 3 and 4 year old outdated machines to see why. On any 1/2 decent machine it runs like a dream. I'm running a mildy overclocked Intel Core 2 Duo 6600+, Vista 64 SP1 and 4GB of memory (a mid range machine now that C2D's are reaching 9700) and its as smooth as a babies bum on my machine and responds like lightening. The previous version X1 ran poorly for me.
Highly recommended alternative to Photoshop Elements for anyone with a pc not still stuck in the dark ages!

I bought an earlier version of PSP and it had a fairly major bug which meant that often it appeared to save the file I had been working on, but when I subsequently returned for the file it hadn't been saved to disk at all. I lost a lot of work through that bug.
Corel not only refused to provide a fix, but denied any knowledge of the problem even though it was described in detail on various web sites - including their own support forum. Corel wasted a lot of my time fobbing me off after every email, refusing to help and eventually I gave up.
I'm not suggesting that this particular bug still exists but do be aware that, at least based on my experience, you are not likely to get any decent level of support from this company.
