5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT HAIR STRAIGHTENERS   February 8, 2007

MY GHD'S ARE A PART OF ME!!!! I NEVER GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT THEM. MY HAIR IS WAVY WITH A BIT OF A KINK WHICH USED TO DRIVE ME NUTTS BUT NEVER SINCE BUYING THEM JUST OVER A YEAR AGO! AND THE SHINE IS GREAT.
I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WITH THEM AND THEY HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL. SOME OF THEM HAVE LONG HAIR, SOME SHORT HAIR.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND ANY OTHER TYPE OF STRAIGHTENERS OTHER THAN GHD'S. MAYBE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN SOME BUT DEFINATELY WORTH EVERY PENNY. I USE HEAT PROTECTION SPRAY SOMETIMES AND ALTHOUGH GHD SELL THIS, THEIR PRODUCT, IN MY VIEW, IS NO BETTER THAN AVON'S OR TESCO'S ONLY MORE EXPENSIVE!!! SO I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND HAVING TO BUY THEIR MAKE OF SPRAY.
SO, IF YOU WANT YOUR HAIR STRAIGHTENED, NO KINKS OR WAVES AND A GREAT SHINE I DEFINATELY RECOMMEND GHD'S. EVEN IF YOU HAVE STRAIGHT HAIR THEY ARE BRILLIANT FOR GIVING A REAL SHINE.
HOWEVER, MY FRIEND WAS GIVEN A PAIR FOR CHRISTMAS AND AS SHE HAS CROPPED SHORT STRAIGHT HAIR ANYWAY, THEY ARE NO USE!!!!!!!! SO SHE IS SELLING THEM!
MY HAIR IS SHORT BUT THEY STILL WORK GREAT. I USED TO HAVE TO GET MY HAIR CUT REALLY SHORT EVERY 4 WEEKS BECAUSE OF THE KINKS BUT NOW I CAN LEAVE IT MUCH LONGER.
THERE HAS BEEN BAD PUBLICITY FOR THEM ON WATCHDOG ABOUT THEM GOING ON FIRE BUT I DON'T KNOW OF ANYONE WITH ANY PROBLEMS. I WOULD NEVER LEAVE ANYTHING PLUGGED IN EVEN IF SWITCHED OFF ANYWAY. I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN WITH OLDER MAKE. NOT SURE!! BUT NOT MINE ANYWAY!!
BUY THEM AND YOU'LL WONDER WHAT YOU EVER DID WITHOUT THEM!!!!!

Added several months later!! GHD have brought out slimmer straighteners for short hair, excellent for both males and females, my friend has purchased the slimmer ones for her short hair and loves them, my son uses them to straighten part of his hair and spike up the rest!!

3 out of 5 stars Sparking Fireworks   January 6, 2007

Great straightners, they heat up really quickly and very practical. They're not very heavy and straighten even the frizziest thick hair in one maybe two strokes.

However, I have had my pair for almost a year and guess what I discovered this morning? A small hole in the cord which began to spark, smoke started coming out of it too. GHDs have recently been targeting by Watchdog.

I would not buy them again, as competition is now very close at lower prices. Recommended to wait for the new batch when the fault has been rectified.

4 out of 5 stars I'm happy but at the same time WORRIED!!!   December 5, 2006

I've had my GHD's for about 6 months now and I'm loving them...HOWEVER! I have become addicted to "Good Hair Days" and use them every morning 7 days a week before work and going out for the night. My hair seems fine but I have developed a complex with using them so often. The good side is that I only have to go to the salon just once a month or every three weeks to sort out split ends! I also use a straightenening balm with heat defence technology, so I can really say is these are good as long as you protect your hair from damaging heat.

5 out of 5 stars The Best I've ever used.   December 1, 2006

Having unfortunately been blessed with hair that is neither curly, nor straight and also having hair that is rather thick It used to take me ages to wash, dry and style my hair to get it straight and reasonably fluff free. I tried several brands of straighteners but none achieved the desired effect.

One night I was at a friends house getting ready to go out when I asked to borrow hers to just run through my hair to tidy it abit. THANK GOD I DID. They were (as you've probably guessed) GHD's. I bought a pair of my own and I've never looked back.

When I'm getting ready, after just rough drying my hair, after 10 minutes (including heating up time) I have perfectly straight, shiny, manageable hair. With some practise I am now also able to burl my hair with them.

All in all,I would say BUY THEM. Many other's claim to be as good but that's rubbish. I have never found better and i would never use anything else. As for a previous comment regarding hair goin dry, that happens with all heat products on your hair. Its an unfortunate fact of life. It doesn't detract from my GHD's at all. They are simply FABULOUS.

4 out of 5 stars Great straighteners if you're careful   November 5, 2006

After 25 years of out-of-control frizz, and numerous pairs of "As good as GHD" straighteners, I finally decided that I may as well go for the real thing.

The effects were amazing, it was like someone had waved a magic wand - flat, shiny and totally under control in half the time it used to take. No snagging like other irons, and they're ridiculously lightweight. I didn't even need to re-straighten the next day, the effects lasted until I washed my hair. I used them two or three times a week with a heat protector spray. Incidentally, don't use these on wet hair. I don't know why, but the effect just isn't the same.

After a couple of months, I saw a photo of myself pre-GHD, and I noticed that my hair wasn't quite as healthy looking as it had been, and was a bit more puffy. I'd also fallen into the routine of "I have to use GHDs to avoid the puffball effect"; it hadn't occured to me that the dryness could be as a result of GHDs. Even buying the official GHD iron oil didn't seem to make much difference - it only seemed to make my hair greasy in patches.

In summary, GHDs are great, and you won't beat them for straightness or wow effect. Unfortunately for me, the GHDs are now resigned to the drawer. I do use them for nights out because you can't beat the instant effect, but twice-weekly doses of 210 degrees effectively cooked my hair, and I've gone back to my JML titanium straighteners which let you choose a temperature.
